Baby Shower Games

Guess who - Have each guest bring a baby picture with them to the baby shower.  As each guest arrives, collect their baby picture and place on cardboard (use tape on the back of the picture so you don't ruin the picture).  After you are playing games, pass the cardboard around for the guests to guess who is picture #1, picture #2, etc.  The person who gets the most guesses correct wins.  You can also simply use close family guests who are present at the shower - this limits the number of pictures on the cardboard and it can be ready prior to the shower.

Baby Food Taste Test - This will get a real reaction from your guests.  It's only fair, though, because the baby will soon have to eat it....buy at least 6 small jars of baby food, each guest will also get a list of all the different types (not in the same order that you will pass out the baby food).  Each guest will also get a small spoon to taste taste and a paper plate with 6 circles drawn on.  The circles should be numbered 1 through 6, numbered outside the circle.  Pass each jar around the table for them to take a small amount out and place in their circle on their plate.  Be sure to cover the labels on the jar so the guests can't read it.  After all the jars are passed around, have them taste test them and match the flavors together with the list.  The one with the most correct guesses win.  No cheating!

Belly Measurement - Supplies needed:  Ball of yarn, scissors.  Pass around a ball of yarn and ask each guest to cut off the length of yarn that they estimate it will take to go around the guest of honor's belly.  After each guest takes their cut of yarn, have each one measure against the mother's belly to see who is closest.  The closest guess wins a prize!  You can also play without the yarn...simply have each guest write in an inch number on a piece of paper, then take a tape measure to actually measure it.  It really is more fun with the yarn.

Guess the baby items - Buy 10 small baby items and place them into individual brown paper bags numbered 1 - 10 (remove the packaging first).  Pass each item around so that the guests can guess as to what the item is without seeing it.  They just need to feel it through the bag.  Some good items are:  diaper, pacifier, bottle, Nose syringe, baby tylenol, etc.  The guest who guesses the most correctly wins.  The guest of honor gets to keep all the goodies in the bags.

Gift Bingo - Make a bingo template 5 columns wide, 5 columns down.  Have each guest write down items that the guest of honor will most likely receive as gifts.  Such as:  diapers, blankets, swing, pacifiers, bottles, etc.  As the guest of honor opens each of the gifts, the guests mark off their bingo card as the items are opened.  The first guest who gets BABY BINGO wins a prize.

Baby Pin Bingo - As each guest enters the party, give each a Baby Diaper Pin.  Each guest must be aware of what everyone else says during the shower.  If the guest says the word "BABY", another guest can collect their baby pin.  As the party proceeds, the word invariably comes up alot!  At the end of the shower, the person with the most pins wins a prize.  It's alot of fun.  Variations:  Instead of using baby pins, you can use pacifiers on a string, or felt diapers pinned on, etc.  Use your imagination.

Baby Scattegories - Divide the shower into groups of 2 or 3.  Give each team a list with the letters A-Z written on it.  Tell each group they have 5 minutes to think of baby related items.  Each item should begin with a letter A-Z but once a letter is uses you can't use it again.  For example, for the letter B you might use "Bottle" but then you couldn't use "Binky" so you might use "Pacifier" for the letter P, etc.  Start the clock!  After the time is up, read through the list using the most letters.

Bottle Bowling - Line up 10 baby bottles and use a child's toy ball to try and knock them down from a distance of 15-20 feet.  Each person gets one try and whomever knocks down the most on their try wins.  If it is a tie, keep the winners going until you have a top scorer.

Candy Bar Surprise - You will need 10 diapers, pencils and papers and 10 different types of candy bars..  Melt each candy bar in the microwave and put into a separate diaper (Number the diapers so you remember what candy bar is in what diaper.  Pass them around at the shower and the guests can guess what type of candy bar is in each diaper.  Some candy bars have nuts in and this makes a stunning display in the diaper!  The person who guesses the most candy bar types wins.  Oh yeah.....NO taste testing!

Clothes Pin Relay - Divide into two teams.  Determine a start and finish line about 10 feet apart.  Place a large mouth cup (something with an opening about 4-5 inches across) at the finish line for each team.  Each player must place a clothes pin between their knees and waddle to the finish line and drop the clothes pin into the cup without using their hands.  Teams race against each other.  After both teams are done, the team that managed to get the most in the cup wins!

Clothesline Relay - Items needed:  A clothesline, Clothespins, Baby cloths, etc for hanging, A cordless phone, a baby doll.  Choose two players to hold the line.  Each player takes a turn holding the baby doll on one shoulder, the phone on the other.  They each get one minute to hang as many clothes as possible without dropping either!  At the end of each minute, count up the number of articles of clothing hung on the line and make a note.  After everyone has had a turn, determine the winner.

Clothespin Handicap - Items needed:  A clothesline or long piece of rope, a whole bunch of clothespins (at least 20).  Place all the clothespins on the rope.  Have two players hold the rope.  Have each player try to remove as many clothes pins as they can using only one hand.  The player continues removing them until finally they end up dropping one.  The host should then mark down the number of clothespins for each player (the one that dropped does not count).  Whoever removes the most wins!

Cucumber Crochet - Items needed:  a pair of nylons, a cucumber and a potato, a stopwatch or watch with a second hand.  A player puts the cucumber in one leg of the nylons and then ties them around their waist.  The cucumber should then hang down between the legs of the player near the floor.  Place a potato on the floor and mark a spot about 3 feet ahead.  This will be the finish line.  The player needs to try to swing the cucumber (without using their hands or arms) and hit the potato forward little by little until it crosses the finish line.  This will require a lot of hip motion!  This should be timed by someone with a stopwatch or a watch.  The player with the shortest time wins.  Alternative:  If you have a lot of playing space, you could actually make it into a race to the finish line.

Diaper That Baby - Supplies Needed:  Dolls and diapers for each twosome.  Couples are paired together to "diaper" a baby doll.  But there is a catch, each player must keep one hand behind their back....so teamwork is crucial.  The couple who diaper the baby the fastest wins a prize.

Draw A Baby On Your Head - Supplies Needed:  Paper, Pens and Imagination.  Give each player a pen and paper.  The player then put the paper on top of their head.  They are then told to draw a baby without removing the paper from on top of their head.  You then instruct the players to give the baby a bottle, booties, a sleeper, rattle, etc.  When the game ends pass the pictures around the room so that everyone gets to laugh and compare.  The one guest with a picture that most resembles a baby wins....great fun!

Guess The Baby's Birthday - Supplies Needed:  Calendar Page Copies & Pens.  Guests write their names on a calendar with dates and times of their guess of when baby will be born.  The hostess of the party starts a money "pool" payable to the winner.  When the baby is born, the hostess then delivers the money to the lucky winner.

Guess the Baby's Weight - Supplies Needed:  Paper & Pens.  All the baby shower guests write down what they think your baby will weigh at birth, in pounds and ounces, with the baby's length as the tie breaker.  The hostess of the party starts a money "pool" payable to the winner.  When the baby is born, the hostess then delivers the money to the lucky winner.

Have You Ever? - Have you done something from this list of silly things.  If so, you score a point!  How many points will you score?  Items needed:  Paper and pencils.  Read this list to all players.  We would suggest a prize for the most points and a prize for the lowest points.

Maternity Designer - Supplies needed:  towels, toilet paper, balloons, streamers, paper cutouts of various shapes, scissors, ribbon, headbands, bows, baby items, etc.  Divide all players into groups of 2 or 3.  Give each group a bag filled with fun items from the supply list.  Tell each group they have 10 minutes to design a maternity outfit.  Have one person on each team be a model and after the 10 minutes, hold a fashion show.  Play some fun music in the background.  Have the mother-to-be judge the outfits and have a small prize for the winning team.

Messy Diaper - Supplies Needed:  Diapers, melted chocolate bar.  Get a package of baby diapers for newborns and put one under each guests chair.  In one of the diapers, paint a brown spot (or simply melt a small chocolate bar in the microwave and place in diaper - better effect!).  During the party, when all your guests are sitting down, have the guests reach to the floor and check the baby diaper.  The one with the melted chocolate bar wins a prize.  The mother to be can then use the newborn baby diapers for the new baby (except for the dirty one).

Mystery Madness - Supplies Needed:  Paper or garbage bag, funny clothes and music.  Get a bag full of funny clothes including hats, shirts, bras, swim suits, goofy glasses, boxers, skirts, coats, etc.  Then have all the players sit in a circle.  Start some music and have the guests pass the bag around.  Stop the music suddenly and the one with the bag has to close their eyes and reach in the bag.  Whatever they pull out, they must put on.  Keep the game going until all the items are gone.  Everyone gets to vote for the funniest attire.

Nursery Rhyme Guess - Supplies Needed:  Nursery Rhymes with lines missing (copied) and pens.  Give each guest a copy of the nursery rhymes with the missing lines.  See if your guests can remember the rhyme without help from others.

_______________________________________________________?

When the boys came out to play

Georgie Porgie ran away.

Old Mother Hubbard

went to the cupboard

to get her poor dog a bone,

when she got there

the cupboard was bare

and so the poor dog had none.

She went to the baker's

to buy his some bread

but when she came back

the poor dog was dead.

Paperclips and Rice - Supplies Needed:  A large bowl or bucket of rice with a dozen paperclips mixed in and a blindfold.  Place rice in a large bowl or pail along with several small plastic paper clips mixed in.  Each player gets blindfolded.  Determine a set amount of time such as 30 seconds to 1 minute.  See who can find the most paperclips.

Parents Name Game - Supplies Needed:  Paper and pencils.  Have each guest write in the name of the mother and the father of the baby.  Have each guest try to come up with names for the baby from the letters in the parents name.  The winner can be the funniest name or who comes up with the most names.

The Women Game - A game for women.  Add or subtract points based on a fun rhyme.  The player with the most points wins.  Supplies Needed:  Papers and pencils for score keeping.  Read the rhyme slowly so everyone can add or subtract properly.  Here is your rhyme:

This is a rather peculiar game

It really does not have a name

It's simple to play as a game should be

You just do as you're told, you see

So now if you'll please give me your attention

We'll put an end to this suspension

In the end, whoever scores the most

Will receive a prize of which to boast

Now since you're all fashionable girls

Give yourself 5 if you have any pearls

You may add 3 if your toes peek out

And earrings will give you 2 more to shout

Score yourself 5 if you show any red

Add 6 more for a curl on your head

Now before you think you are going to win

Take away 2 for each safety pin

Give yourself 6 if your pants are tight

Add 1 for a scarf which is just about right

Add 5 more if your shoes are black

And take away 3 for a zipper in the back

Now count all your buttons, for each you get 2

And take away 1 for each button that's blue

Give yourself 5 if your heels are high

And why not take 10 for the green in your eye

10 more points for a rose on your clothes

Take away 5 if you forgot to wear hose

If your husband you kissed today - add 9

If you didn't subtract 12 - you're subject to fine

This is the end...there isn't anymore

Who is the lucky lady with the highest score?
